Inexpensive Summer Travel Ideas |

My husband and I are looking for an inexpensive trip in June or July. In Florida it gets so hot that camping probably isn't such a good idea (we originally were planning on meeting another couple in the mountains of NC, but they've backed out on us already). Do you have any suggestions of places to go that aren't super expensive but have fun things to do/see?

We vacationed at Myrtle Beach State Park a couple summers ago. It was only $25 a night to camp. It is a beautiful state park with programs for the kids. You can walk to the beach from your camper. Of course there are all the tourist things to do in Mrytle Beach, but some are pricey. We drove down and spent the day in Charleston. There is a huge air craft carrier there to tour. Everything there was pretty affordable. We love to camp at state parks.

Hi. We go camping all the time, all times of the year. We live in AZ. In the summer we go north, in the winter we stay south. We have a popup tent camper. It's cheaper than a hotel, and you can go any where YOU want to go, with your dog too! So maybe you can buy a nice used "popup" with your tax return, and go camping any where. Hi! We are from Gainesville too! Go Gators!.. Now living in SC. http://www.pirateland.com/rates.html Try this, if you have a tent its fun and 62 dollars a night at the beach! Its hot in day but bring a fan and do indoor things. Nights are a little cool, don't need fan. Dogs are welcome (most breeds).

Seashore National Park, Virginia Beach is a wonderful place to camp. Lots to see and a good place to just relax.

I've always found state parks to be nice vacation spots. I don't know how far you can travel and of course the cost of gas these days is quite expensive but maybe there are some state parks in you own state or nearby states. Also, you might go visit Stone Mountain in GA near Atlanta.

Not sure how far you want to travel but there are tons of fun things to do in Wisconsin...from camping, to gigantic waterparks and resort areas. It is a truly beautiful state and very friendly.

Washington DC! You'd be surprised how much you can do there for no or little cost.
When we go anywhere, I type into google or yahoo "100 free things to do in ___" and something always comes up!

Do any of your local B&Bs or hotels offer "steppin' out" packages? Or have you thought about checking into a hotel at a town or city close by and being a tourist for a weekend? How about being a tourist in your own town, vacationing from home?
