Yield: 32 1/2-inch slices


  • 1 (14-1/2 ounce) angel food cake mix
  • 1/4 cup sifted unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon chocolate flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon sifted powdered sugar


Combine flour packet from cake mix with cocoa. Prepare cake according to package directions. Fold chocolate flavoring into batter. Bake cake according to package directions. Sprinkle cooled cake with powdered sugar.

Chocolate Angel Food Cake II


  • 1 cup (scant) sifted cake flour
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 3/4 cup sifted sugar
  • 1 2/3 cup egg whites at room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. almond


Sift flour, cocoa and 3/4 cup sugar together 4 times; set aside. Combine egg whites with next 4 ingredients in large bowl. Beat at high speed of electric mixer until whites are stiff but not dry. Add remaining 1 cup sugar, gradually, beating constantly. Sprinkle flour mixture quickly over egg whites, beating constantly at low speed. Spoon into ungreased tube pan. Cut through batter with spatula 6 times. Bake at 375 degrees F for 35 minutes. Cool completely, inverted.
