I have an elderly friend who knowing we don't smoke, won't smoke in our home, and always brings an empty Peanut Can with her to put her cigarette stub into.
She is a retired postal worker. This year, I glued used postage stamps to the outside of a can, decoupage it, a couple times. Safeway had small Christmas cactus' in green plastic decorated pot they were just the right size to fit into the can. Placed the lid on bottom of can, cactus in can, added a bow and gift tag.
