Bring the raisins and water to a boil and remove them from the heat. Add the shortening to the raisins. Cream together the sugar and egg and add to the raisin mixture. Sift the flour, baking soda, salt, allspice, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg together and beat into the raisin mixture. Add the nuts and bake on an ungreased jelly roll pan at 375 degrees F for 12-20 minutes.
