Deli-Doughnuts

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups sweet milk
  • 1 cup thick sweet cream
  • 4 eggs (well beaten)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vanilla to taste
  • Baking powder
  • Flour

Directions:

Mix the first 6 ingredients with 7 tsp. baking powder and enough flour to make a safe dough. Roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a 3 inch doughnut cutter. Fry in deep hot fat (375 degrees). Turn once. When golden brown drain on absorbent paper or metal rack. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen. For glaze: Mix 2 cup powdered sugar with 2 Tbsp. vanilla and enough water to make mixture look like heavy cream. Dip hot doughnuts on a skewer through glaze and cool on wire rack over waxed paper.
