My dog recently got over severe diarrhea and vomiting. She spent 2 nights in a very good animal hospital in Springfield, MA. The doctor did numerous tests but found no answers. They believe it was a virus but cause remained unfound. We changed her diet to Hill's I/D and had great results. She loves it and it loves her so check with your vet if you should have the same problem.

This is Rose again - one of the best foods on the market is actually MAKING YOUR OWN foods. I am not sure this website will post my original post but this is to conclude my last post regards Hill's.

Hill's is not good for your pet - please do the research on your own and begin to educate on what you should be giving your animal. All Vets are sponsored by Hill's and it's a political and money gain for both parties. Hill's WILL cause damage to your pets in the long run. Otherwise, you are care giving your dog or cat to a grave illness in the long run.

Look into Innova EVO and Wellness foods - or making your own foods.

WAKE UP PEOPLE AND READ THE FACTS ABOUT HILLS - it's just as bad as commercial dog food.

Vets GET PAID for selling this to you - it DOES NOT MEAN that the food is good for your animal...just to let you know, you are slowly KIILING your animal with these types of foods.

TAKE THE TIME and do the research. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Unfortunately, vets are not nutritionalists and receive a commission from Hills when you purchase their food. Some vets are EXTREMELY pushy about Hills and it's taken me a long time to find a decent vet with more holistic values and knowledge of nutrition. Google "holistic vets" in your area if you're concerned about this as well.

Here's the problems with this food:

1. It's made up mostly of brewers rice which is basically just a filler. To add to this, brewers rice is just a by-product of rice production and lacks the very few nutrients found in rice that people eat. Brewers rice is used only in pet and livestock products as it is very low quality.

2. The lack of meat - the only meat product is pork fat. It also has chicken liver flavour but this may or may not be a meat source as non-meat flavours are much cheaper. Dogs need meat, simple as that. The other problem with this is that pork is not the best meat to be feeding your dog.

3. Nutrients/vitamins etc. are from chemical sources. Another way of making the food cheaper to produce by avoiding using ANY real meat or vegetables.

4. Hills uses Ethoxyquin in all their foods. It's a preservative which is not used in human foods as it is known to be dangerous. It kills fish most rapidly and I'd be here forever if I were to tell you the problems it has caused for dogs. Many vets who are knowledgeable about nutrition speak out against the use of Ethoxyquin in pet foods but go unheard because as usual - money speaks loudest.

It's unlikely you'll ever get your vet on the same page as you with this and quite possible that your vet will try to argue that it is the only way to help your dog. Please stick to your guns on this and find a holistic vet if necessary. Many health issues in pets that exist today are directly linked to commercial pet foods including prescription diets such as Hills.

This is what is in Hills - THE REAL FOOD does not even come until the 5th item.

brewers rice, corn gluten meal, chicken by-product meal, pork fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid) and then finally chicken - and then chicken flavor.

The first 2 ingredients are grains. The body breaks down ALL grains into individual sugar molecules that load up the blood stream. These two ingredients being the first and second ingredient in this food is therefore what most of the food is made from. This is DANGEROUS for your pets. Please educate yourself and do the research.

Meat product SHOULD ALWAYS be the first food product. Why on earth would you want to feed your animal the reminisence of rice and corn gluten meal. Animals ARE NOT supposed to have gluten of any kind. And chicken by-product meal - this is EVERYTHING a human would not eat, the feathers, bones, feet, intenstines and the head of a chicken. WHY ON EARTH would you feed this to your animals. WAKE UP AMERICA. WAKE UP!

Bless her heart, what a sweet pup. Diamond "premium" dog food killed a lot of dogs, was she on that? I am so happy your vet was able to save her.

All of my rescue dogs are fed Science Diet, they thrive on it.

Thank you for posting her picture and sharing your story.

By the way....those red eyes are a tip off that it is essentially the same illness.....I've seen several sick dogs lately and all of them had those red sore looking eyes......

My dog was sick too.....and a beloved friend lost her baby over this illness .....it's not as mundane as vets seem to think......her Baby dog was a young dog too.....mine is ten...and he was miserable....we have been having water problems....sewage spills in North Idaho...and they don't tell us to boil...till someone discovers they have poisoned us one more time......I think that was what made us all so sick....Try boiling dog's water too.....

I'm sorry your poor doggie was so sick, and I'm glad to see a change of diet is helping her. She looks like a sweetie.
