When looking for a new car don't just look for the best offers on the new cars you look at, but also look for the best trade in offers from the dealerships as well.

My husband worked for a car dealership for a while. You will almost always come out well ahead by taking the time to sell your used vehicle yourself rather than trading it in. The difference may be as much as $3-4K!

Always negotiate the price of your new car before you ask the trade in value of your car. Sometimes dealers can be tricky and make it look like you're getting an amazing trade in price when all they really did was jack up the price of the car you're buying. You may find that you're better off to sell your car outright.
