Dog breeds in this group were all originally bred for hunting and pursuing game. This group contains the fastest members of the canine family, like the elegant Greyhound and the Afghan Hound (also known as sight hounds), which are known for their stamina and speed. The group also contains the two tallest dog breeds, the Scottish Deerhound and Irish Wolfhound. Other hounds, such as Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Beagles and Basset Hounds are known for their keen scenting ability and their stamina in the field.
