How do I keep okra or cucumbers crunchy when pickling them? Thanks to all!

Always cool, your liquids first. After cooling, process anyway you want.I have never, used hot liquids over anything. You would be cooking it, before processing it. Canning or frig.type recipes.

I soak them in pickling lime for a few hours before brining and canning. Just be sure to rinse 3 or 4 times as recommended on the container.

My Mom and Gramma always put a fresh grape leaf (pint jars, 2 or 3 in a quart) in the middle of the jar of ANY kind of pickle. They never had a soft pickle as long as I can remember!

Powdered alum. Add 1/4 tsp per 1 qt jar before adding brine.
