River Birch Leaves Turning Brown

My River Birch leaves are turning brown. I planted it about 6 weeks ago.

I have no idea what could be causing the problem, but i know that here in middle Georgia where i live, all our trees and bushes have leaves that are turning blackish brown in spotty areas (not all in one part of the tree/bush). It's the strangest phenonmenon i've ever seen and i'm planning on contacting our County Extension Agent tomorrow to see if he has any answers.
