I was 'Dumpster Diving' & found a nice servicable bookcase & 2 nightstands. The only problem was the bookcase was laminated in an 'iteresting' shade of orange & the nightstands in a yellow. I washed them off with bleach to kill any germs & painted them both shiney black. Black goes with everything & they look real nice.

You do not need to sand it. Remove all of the hardware 1st. Then just put on a light coat of latex primer & paint it any color that you would like. You may even wish to put on a crackle finish, depending on the look that you are going for. Good Luck!
