Microfiber is great. Mine is light cream an I have a dark grey cat that loves it. I use a lint brush, it works great. My sister has a black set, I love it and so does she.
I have a red microfiber sofa and love it. But, I'm not sure that black is a good choice, as everything would show up on it, such as hair, dust particles, lint, etc. I've always said that black clothing was good for only one thing - catching trash! Ha!
