Hi the best recipe for soda bread I have & 1 I always use is. 1lb wholemeal flour. tsp. salt 1 tsp. bicarb. 1 tsp. baking powder mix together then rub in 2 oz butter (this is for moisture as soda bread can be dry) then add enough buttermilk or ordinary milk to form a softish dough. Just kneed this slightly shape into a circle then bake for about 35 minutes. Let us know which works for you good luck. helen x
Soda Bread
3 tbsp butter, softened
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
Honey and room temperature butter for spreading
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Grease cookie sheet.
Cut butter in to flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in large bowl until mixture is fine and crumbly.
Stir in buttermilk.
Place dough onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 1 to 2 minutes.
Shape into round loaf.
Place on cookie sheet and cut an X about 1/2 inch deep on top of loaf.
Bake until golden brown, about 35 to 45 minutes.
Serve with butter and honey.
