Butter Tarts


  • sifted flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 10 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • Ad
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts


Combine 1 1/2 cups flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add 3 tablespoons water, mixing well. Divide dough into 24 portions. Roll out and line tart or muffin cups. Combine 1 1/2 teaspoons flour with sugars in bowl. Beat egg, milk and vanilla together in small bowl. Add to sugar mixture, mixing well. Stir in butter and nuts. Fill pastry shells. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until set.
