Getting Rid Of Fleas On Dog

I have tried everything and I cannot get rid of the fleas on my dog.

I would order frontline spray and do it once a month. Throw salt all over everything, the carpet, under your sheets, etc. Put a flea collar in the vacuum bag, and vacuum all the time. I always wash the dogs in dawn detergent and leave it on for ten minutes. Then rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse and flea comb while they are wet. Frontline Spray is cheaper than the topical spot treatment but the spot treatment might work faster. You can do a pill from the vet that will kill all the fleas in 24 hours but this is just to get the infested dog clean. It has no residual effects.

If I just had one dog, I would probably use the frontline topical spot treatment once a month. Go to for more ideas on home remedies and other forms of treatment of fleas. Robyn

I don't like Frontline because the flea has to bite before it works. I use Adams on my dog. I have also ordered some Lavender oil. Fleas can't stand the stuff and it's good for irritated skin. (Also good for headaches!)

I have 5 dogs n 5 cats. Last year i had a bad flea infestation and was desperate. No matter what I did , couldn't get rid of the lil pests. This year i got some cedar spray from cedarcide and this works. no fleas-mites-ticks etc. is all natural and not harmful to pets. also neem oil spray works too. Both products are all natural -good for the skins and prevents fleas. I wont use frontline and advantage or products like that as it is harmful to ur pet. can find on the web. Also use on pet area and around your home.

Got to the vet and they have this pill that you can give to your dog once a month I live in Siloam Springs, AR also and they charge I think $13 for one pill but it works and you don't have to worry about it again until next month

Hello, Can you take you pets to a groomer? Then apply advantage every 3 weeks, that should do the trick. Good luck

I used to live in Southern Calif. where you could never completely get rid of fleas. You have to attack the problem from all sides. First, you have to bathe your dog using a flea shampoo. You also need to use a flea dip (rinse). Then you have to take care of the fleas in your home and outside. There are many products for that, such as foggers, carpet powder that you vacuum up, etc.

When you place a flea collar on your dog and you trim it to length, put the trimmed section of the collar in your vacuum bag to help kill fleas and their eggs. Fleas particularly dislike the flavor of garlic and yeast (nutritional or brewer's yeast). Mixing garlic and yeast with your pet's food can render their blood unpalatable to fleas. You can also buy it in a tab form that you can feed directly to your dog. Good luck.

Avon Skin So Soft bath oil should get rid of fleas. Bathe your dog and apply some to coat. You could put some in a spray bottle and spray your dog. But a bath and then Skin so Soft should get rid of them and keep them away for a while. That is how my mom kept the fleas off her poodle.

I would take the dog to have it professionally de-flead then start using that Advantix for fleas and bugs. You only have to apply it once a month. We do it on the first of every month when we give our dog her heart worm pill. It kills two birds with one stone. (07/01/2008)

I agree with the natural suggestions, but don't use dips or any of the products that are designed to get rid of them. Like one of the others mentioned they are poison. Regardless of what vets and companies tell you they are bad and will get into the nervous system of a dog.

There are to many natural products you can use. Diatamaceous earth can be spread in your yard. It's cheap, can be spread with a spreader and it's only ground up seashells. It dries them up. You can usually get it at a nursery or anywhere they sell gardening products. (07/01/2008)

If you are looking for a healthy affordable safer alternative that has worked best for me. It is called Cedarcide and you can find it on line. It can be used for all pets. You have to spray it on your pets every three days 2x's and then every 2weeks until infestation stopped. It is safe for people and pets. It kills and or repels many other unwanted bugs. Check them out on line. It saved us a lot.

Dawn dish soap works well. You can see the fleas just float away in the bath water. (07/01/2008)

Our dog brings in fleas from outside every summer and then they spread to the cat, the carpet, etc. My husband had a great idea if you have a tolerant and patient dog.

While I treated the house with a spray from the vet, he vacuumed the dog with the shop vac. She thought she was getting a massage and the fleas were sucked right off of her. Make sure you test the suction power of your vacuum on your own arm or hand before trying on your pet. She had her first restful, non-itchy night in weeks. (07/02/2008)
