Buttery Bubble Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 package or Tbsp. yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4-4 1/2 cups flour
  • 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted

Directions

In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water. ADd sugar, shortening, egg, salt and 1 cup flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise until double or about 1 hour. Punch dough down and pinch off small pieces and roll into 1 1/2 inch balls. Dip into melted butter and arrange in a greased tube pan or a large loaf pan. Drizzle with remaining butter. Cover and let rise approximately 45 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes before inverting on a serving platter. Serve warm.
