Coca cola is a good item to use to get gasoline smell out of clothes as well as oil stains.

Did anyone have any suggestions for getting gas out of leather? Someone else asked but I don't see any responses. I had an incident yesterday where I tripped over the hose crossing over it and the handle pulled out, spitting gasoline all over my pants and leather jacket. I will try the vinegar, baking soda idea. I also have a degreaser the may help, but I am lost as to what to use on my leather jacket. So if anyone out there knows, please share. Thanks!

Although this story is interesting and frightening it has nothing to do with getting the gasoline smell out of any sort of laundry. I do hope that he gets justice in the court room. I never knew this sort of thing could happen.

Getting Hosed at the Pumps....How's about literally. I was pumping gas when next thing I knew I was flattened against my car, dazed. Still holding with right hand nozzle in tank of car, thinking I'd been hit in head with baseball bat and spit on??

I wiped my face smelling gas and looked around to realize I had BOTH ends of the hose! Come to find out I was hit at 150 psi with what the industry calls a "line shock", as their patents since 2003 state "pre-mature breakaway during NORMAL fueling."

My scalp was gouged and cut and I've had three surgical procedures on my left eye...Now left with medical bills, foreign entity of US based Gas Station entity has fled Country, Oil entity and Mfg now willing to pay some, but "unwilling to WARN public!"

CDC has Benzene Poison on top 6 list of Toxic Chemicals for past 15 years...which leads to Leukemia from gasoline exposure.

Now since big gun Corp Attorney's took Oil and Mfg case, I''m unrepresented fighting the system Pro Se. Although, if there is any justice in this whole debacle....GA Judge of State Court said he will hear case and allow before Jury.

However, I'm now fighting for Discovery, due to comments made by Defendants representative of Cases PENDING, NUMEROUS other cases having happened over the years.

Only reason I'm still ALIVE to testify is I had my head tilted toward pump looking through car window toward store at my son. For the next may not be so lucky, and take that 150 psi blow on the temple and be DEAD!

I told Oil company 6 months after the fact in fighting and compiling the evidence along with photos taken on day of injury. "I'd eat my medical bills before I'd be quiet, for they knew and I knew that it was a faulty breakaway. What are you waiting for someone to die? Warn the Public!"

So at this moment, I'm eating my bills and making more as I fight for you and the next consumer to not get gouged and hosed twice at the pumps....for the 2ND might be the last!

Try 2 cups of Vinegar in with a quality detergent, not
the bargain stuff. This should do it.

Fabulous site. Thank you SO much. We had a gasoline mishap where gasoline from the pump spilled on shoes but when we washed them everything in the wash smelled gasoline. The vingar worked like a charm...it's better smelling like a salad then gasoline!!! If you want to get the vinegar smell out just wash in regular detergent.

Rubbing a little Dawn dishwashing liquid into the spots works well. Also you could try using some mechanics hand cleaner.

My sister's mother in law used pinesol in the wash for her husband's clothes. It takes out oil, tar and anything else he gets covered with doing road construction.

I've heard that because gasoline is an oil based product that oil will take it out. Baby oil was recommended. Try putting a little baby oil in with the load, it should wash out and take the gasoline with it.

First, I would try a cup or so of baking soda (such as Arm & Hammer). Baking soda neutralizes odors. Use it just like you would powdered detergent. Add nothing else to your machine and run it through the full wash cycle. Then, run the towels through a wash cycle using the detergent you regularly use. If that doesn't work, I would then try a cup of vinegar. Again, add nothing else to your machine and run it through the full wash cycle. I would think one of these two would get rid of the odor. Hope this helps - GOOD LUCK!
