Source: Just using my head for more than a place to hang my hat!
By Poor But Proud from Salem OR
I use mine in the refrigerator to put onions in. The mess from the onion skins can be dumped out easily.
I just did something last night! I had some pork chops that came in one of these containers and I wanted to marinate them, so I pulled that "plastic pad" that was underneath, put the chops back in the container, added marinade and waited for the grill to be ready! Love your other ideas, too!
My daughter rescues stray cats and they are housed in crates until homes can be found for them. She uses these trays for litter boxes in the crates.
I wouldn't reuse these for any type of edibles because of the contamination. Even after bleaching them, I'm still not sure. But there are so many other uses for them!
Unfortunately the stores around me have stopped using these and have gone to the styrofoam trays. I miss the white plastic ones.
As an artist/crafter they are terrific to hold paint, use to wash out paint brushes, hold under an item that you are adding glitter to to save the extra for reuse, lay things across the top to dry, plus organizing all those small bits that we collect. Best of all they can be reused over and over
Just be really careful when re-using these containers. Poultry is really contaminated and most experts recommend that you not re-use these containers, because even with washing them, they may not be as clean as you think. I believe in recycling and re-using, but my family's health is not worth saving a few pennies by using these containers.

(Archived May 18, 2009)Reuse Plastic Meat Trays Around The House
Several are used in the bathroom for setting things one that might leave a mess on the counter, one even for the liquid soap dispenser. The one on my computer table holds my water bottle and also my coffee and contains any accidental spills and leaves no residue should the bottle sweat as they sometimes do.
These plastic trays can be washed by hand many times and if they get too bad, just toss them out and get another one. Being that they are white in color, they pretty much go with any decor and as long as they are kept clean, who will even bother to notice.

Editor's Note: These are hard plastic trays, not the white styrofoam trays.

It'd be a nice idea otherwise, though. :) (03/15/2009)

They're even more of a fire hazard if they're used to catch oil drippings near the stove. I'd use an old plate for that instead. (03/15/2009)

So these would be much safer to use than trays that come in contact with meat products. (03/15/2009)

I've used them for holding potato peelings and other raw vegetable scraps and they're great for scraping food off dinner plates and bones and fat from meat that's going to be discarded.
When the men work together on projects outdoors, I put a bar of soap on the styrofoam tray with a pail at the pump to wash hands before lunch. (03/15/2009)
