Mix sour cream, cream cheese, and taco mix; spread on plate or platter. Let sit about 2 hours. When ready to serve, cover with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese in that order. Serve with tortilla chips.
Let cream cheese come to room temperature. If in a hurry, you can microwave it for a few seconds to get it softer. Add sour cream and taco seasoning. Blend together. I usually use a mixer to get it all whipped together. Put in cake pan or plastic oblong container and put grated cheese on top. Serve with chips.
