Choosing the Right Spaghetti Sauce |
Years ago, Consumer Reports rated spaghetti sauces. They found they had to rate them for two categories because some people like a sweet tangy sauce and others don't. If you like a sweet sauce you can make it sweet, but if you don't you can get stuck with a sauce your family will not enjoy.
A simple solution is to check the grams of sugar per serving on a brand that you like. The magic number for us is 6 to 7g. Out of curiosity I also checked the sugar content on a brand we thought tasted like catsup. It was 12g!

This is a practical tip about how to judge if the sauce is to your own personal taste. The grams of sugar count seems like a very good place to start. I, too, have noticed that some sauces just taste way too sweet for my family. After you have eliminated the obvious "catsup" entries, then you can work with the acidiy, spices, salt, etc. Good tip!
