What do publishers do with magazines they don't sell? Is there a site that sells them? Is there a place that I can swap "Used" magazines?

Thanks in advance for your answers,
Katluvsbears from Coatesville, PA

If you just want to get rid of your magazine rather than trade them, try http://www.freecycle.org You can post what you have to give away or what you are looking for.

I have recently started a company where people can trade their used magazines with each other for the price of a stamp.

I actually used to work for a store that sold magazines. When the next issue came out, we tore off the front cover and sent that back to the distributor (think it was too expensive to send the full amount). We just threw the rest in the dumpster. You may want to ask at the store what they do with unsold magazines.

Hi! I am not aware of a site that sells out of date mags, but I can tell you about what the publishers do with them. I worked for a company that restocks the mags at grocery stores (at the register, etc) and I had to go in there in the mornings and pull all of the out of date mags, throw them in a bin (sometimes it would be over 400 mags a week!) and they go to the printing warehouse and get shredded. I could NOT believe that when I was told that. What a waste, even if they could be donated or something, but shredded and thrown away? That was just my experience, but the company was a pretty large company, that dealt with over 1000 mag and newspaper titles. Good luck in finding anymore info. Robyn, Pa.
