Punk Rock Birthday Party Ideas |
|
|
My daughter is turning 14 and she is a Punk Rocker! I was thinking of inviting her friends over and we could hang outside and listen to music but other than that I don't know what to do. Please help with ideas. She wouldn't like a pamper party or a luau party, she has grown out of those things.
Thanks for the help,
Karen from Washington

I'm not a 'punk' as you so succinctly put it, but I know what I would want: records. 8-track tapes. Cassettes, even. Something like the Clash, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Adverts, the Alarm, Generation X and Billy Idol. Or a guitar or bass so I can learn to play like my favorite musicians. Or paint. Lots and lots of acrylic paint with which to 'decorate' things.
But that's gifts. Usually for a party all you need is the people. For my last birthday, we all just trampled into my room and sat. We talked about the worlds' most pressing enigmas: life, death, and sports. We took paper and wrote things back and forth, like 'notes.' Made quizzes to which all the answers we put were "Your mom!", or "Your mother!" And thrift stores are awesome. Flea markets, antique shops... neat. I'm always bugging my mom to take me to places like that, and yet she insists on going to frilly boutique-type shops. Please don't do that. Let her decide what she wants. Although she's probably already had her birthday and is ready for her next one by now.

hey i'm turning 16 and i am totally punk what you should do is go out to hot topic or a thrift store and get wicked cool punkish clothes..studed belts, wristsbands, riped jeans, cons (converses) and go home and listen to loud music or better yet get a local band to do a concert or go to one of there's. to really rock out play an instrument like guitar..drums..bass etc.(if you know how) and create your own punk band

Tell your daughter if she's a REAL punk rocker she and her friends can spend the day doing something worthwhile. Like picking up litter or helping at a homeless shelter or the local animal pound. That's cool.

I suggest a simple party. Blast the music and let them dance until they're numb, kool-aid, movies, and SILLY SPRAY! Just be chill don't hover or talk to the guests in an overly zealous tone, its creepy. Just try not to drive yourself insane trying to rent out a skull and cross bone bounce house. DIY party favors would be rad. Ask them what they want before you give yourself a brain hemorrhage, lol I've had a birthday party in an empty parking lot riding shopping carts and drowning myself in soda with my friends n lemme tell you thats way more fun than playing dress up. (but maybe thats just me idk).

I am looking for ideas for my daughter's 13th bday party, and this site has been great with the idea's, especially reminding me that she probably won't want me hovering (I Love hovering) also for the ones who want to get technical, my daughter will tell you that her style can't be categorized, she likes 80's music, fall out boy, the ramones, and german and french bands, oh and John Legend (?) actually she just recently removed fall out boy from her ipod and I miss them. Her dress isn't outlandish, well except for the spiked collar (I'm still trying to get use to it) and a lot of black and red. Regardless of the music or the clothes she is very bright, independent, and loving. My focus and hers is not on whether or not she is emo, punk, poser, or "other". She's not perfect, but she's a good kid and I want her to enjoy her 13th, I'll see which of these suggestions she likes.

As a 22 year old mother to a 1 1/2 year old who can hit the pits like the best of them, i say bands in the back yard is a great way to go allong with TONS of food and drinks. - My mom alwayse had metal tubs with ice filled with non-alcoholic beer and coolers....alwayse made us feel "cool", made her look good too.

Hey there, some things I'd suggest for your daughter would be buy her some things she likes and you know for a fact she does (Not what you think can change her) at the party bring some music she likes and a lot of friends. Don't make her feel uncomfortable, leave her kind of unsupervised.
I'm a 16 yr old punk and would be just about happy with friends over :) Don't make it too complicated and overdone.

If your daughter is true punk then she will not like you to get things at hot topic as one lady has said, because hot topic is a poser store and true punks are against it. The best thing to do would be to let her invite a ton of kids or however many she wants over and let em blast some music, and unsupervised. Your daughter is becoming a teenager and a punk, if she is a real punk, no one will stop her from doing what she wants.

Ok.If your daughter likes the "pop" punk bands, let her pick a local band that can play at her party. Make sure there is tons of food, let her invite as many friends as she wants, and let the kids feel like they are unsupervised---even if you are there keeping an eye out. DONT DO ANYTHING TO EMBARRASS HER
If she likes this music, forget hot topic or any store like that. Get her a sewing machine or sewing kit, and help her rip up those band shirts into cute halter tops, tank tops, tube tops etc
get her some mac makeup bright red lipstick fishnets and neon colored high heels

Mom of twin goth-ish daughters age 12. Music (loud) Food (lots of it) Movies (her choice). Maybe go to Hot topic for party favors like stickers, earrings, etc. They have great sales. Also if she's up for it, hand out scary temp hair colors. You're a good mom! Have fun!

yeah, im 13 and i love punk rock. but not "fall out boy", and all that stuff. that's pop. the only band i like that's pop/punk is simple plan. the rest is Black Flag, Misfits, Danzig, Metallica, Pantera, ect. and since they're not that popular in this generation it's hard to throw a "punk" party. what she probly thinks is punk would most likely be: hawthrone heights, fall out boy, my chemical romance, and that kindda stuff. but don't get me wrong, some of them are good, but that's not "punk" that's more "emo, indie, and pop"... kids really get the steriotypes wrong! so if she plans on a punk party, it's not all just looks. punk started by the music. so if she dosen't plan on it already, i would break out some danzig somewhere in the party :] and if kids think she's weird.. then they just don't understand what punk really means. and if she donsn't like the ideas of a punk party... i wouldn't throw her one. because it WILL be a dissaster. trust me.
been there, done that.
so bring in a band or something! make it interesting!

Hmmm for my 15th birthday my parents let me have a backyard party & some bands played... and i wore my usual attire of red plaid skirt and combat boots! Now I am 24 and stumbled across this page looking for "punk rock party favors" for my "marriage dinner".... and i'm wearing red plaid pajamas and a 20-year-old minor threat shirt! I've come full circle!

Well, great question. My daughter is turning 12 next month and I am preparing a "Punk Rock" party. All her friends like different types of music so I will have them all bring there favorite CDs to the party. So anything involved with music. We have Twister Moves and Kareoki. Also a great one is Dance Dance Revolution. Girls and Boys like these. We will be having a scavenger hunt and doing games like putting up a poster of her favorate boy band (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE) and having the girls be blindfolded and kiss the pic with either Lipstick or stick on a cutout pair of lips (this is still undecided). Who ever gets the closest to his lips wins the poster ;) This is a Slumber party as well, so there will be movies, popcorn and fun.
***Have them all dress as Punk as they want. Have a good time. Some as my daughter will dress as she always does and others this will be a change. Its all in good fun***
Did this help???

ok well if u ask me just let her have as many people as she wants and have lots of food, maybe a local band! i would not classify my self as a punk but i do love the ramones, the exploited, the casualties, tool, ect. i am only 14 but i know what i would want...remember don't make a skull cake, a banner that reads "punk rock party" or anything that's just over the top...u should have sumthing like hot pink and black as the colors! but most of all dont forget the music! music music music thats important!
try to have games to play and trust me do not walk around her party give her some space [my birthday is in august and im on here trying to find out what i should do and i have no clue how to tell my mom not to be around me and my friends....help me] most of all do not try to direct it....ask her what she wants let her be the punk rock princess for a day or 2!
By the way forget all of those people below and above me calling ur daughter a poser...she is not a poser! shes just still figuring life out and so am i so just have a real crazy, whicked fun party with lots of food, music, people, games and ease up a bit and let her have boys there ;)
take my advice and give ur daughter one great birthday party!

Im a 15 year old punk from the seattle area, and I really don't know how i got to this web page but thought it was pretty funny. Now i'm not too sure about how punk your daughter is, but if she is punk enough then she would probably enjoy going to a punk rock show with her friends. There's tons of places to go see a show in seattle. You or your daughter might already know, but i would suggest El Corazon, The Fun House, or Studio Seven. The Fun House is nice and cheap, never seen a show over $7, although it might not be the most appropriate for a bunch of 14 year old girls. El Corazon would probably be the most modest place for a younger punk, however it's a little more pricey ($10 - $20) and it's hard to find a true punk show, too many poseurs. The hardest thing would be convincing the parents of your daughters friends in letting them go. Or you could just have a nice dinner party and watch a movie. I mean punks are regular people too, you don't have to do punk stuff to be a punk. And stay away from places like "Hot Topic" and other franchises, the idea of capitalism isn't very punk. If your daughter is a true punk she's making "new stuff" out of "old stuff", adding a little bit if individulaism to everything. good luck Zach

Ok... if your daughter is only 14, then I doubt she listens to punk (The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Misfits, Agent Orange, Black Flag, Rancid, Epoxies, etc.) What she most likely listens to is one or several of a group of pop/rock bands that are somewhat influenced by punk (Green Day, the Used, My Chemical Romance, etc.). Anyway, that said, just ask her what she wants to do.
And you should probably give her some music by The Clash or Agent Orange for her birthday. That way she knows what she's really saying when she calls herself a punk rocker. And that way you won't have to listen to Fall Out Boy for the rest of the time she lives with you.
Anyway, no matter what, good luck with the party, and I hope you and your daughter both have a great time! :)

heyy well lets get one thing straight, emo - emotional (music or person) punk- is not necessarily emo but is individual and just pretty darn cool! well anyway for the party, I think that you should have like a load of clothes that don't mind getting ruined, have each person customize and style them, then at the end have them perform on a catwalk that would be really cool! 2. another idea would to be have a massive food fight, water fight that would be wicked. if it's not to be at home, rent out a hall that doesn't cost too much and just play loud music and have a blast =] if renting a hall is too much money then maybe go to a local park and have water fight or chill and get everyone to bring a bit of food and a have a like massive feast and just take a cd player r ipod with and have tunes playing the whole time. I can assure you these can't go wrong!

The internet is a scary place for kids nowadays and a kids only site would probably need to be screened even more carefully than this site is. I think we should be glad that kids want to come to a site like this and we should welcome them rather than shoving them off in a corner. Sorry, just my opinion. I love this site and learn something new every time I visit.

I think it would be a wonderful idea too and maybe one day you'll be able to.
You all do such a great job on this site. It's why I started coming to it because of the great ideas that everyone posts and because it is an adult site. I have nothing against the younger generation, please don't take offense (I have 3 of my own).

Your daughter probably uses the term "punk rock" to describe herself, but it's far more likely she's into the emo scene (currently, what is called Emo and Hardcore are pretty much the same thing, except that some Emo bands aren't hard and fast like what is called "hardcore" these days). I highly doubt she's actually a punk rocker. I don't mean to be condescending at all, but if you were to put on some Circle Jerks or Sex Pistols at her party, she'd probably say "ewww... what's this?" She likes bands like Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, or maybe Atreyu and Underoath, right? Well, if that's the case, listen to everyone except PunkRocker. If she actually tears apart and sews her clothes back together, puts patches on her clothes, and such, then I'm wrong about her, and the best idea would be to just let her control the music, or go to a show (not a "concert," concerts suck). A show is usually held in a really small place, often with no stage, and if there is one, it's only 6 inches to a foot tall, and when the music starts, people slam into eachother really hard. Anyway, if she's an actual punk rocker, then let her control the way the party is, otherwise she'll probably just get mad and hate the party (though she'll forgive you in a couple of weeks).

I was deffintly not into punk when I was turning 12 but it's been many years past. I'm planning a punk birthday party for my boy and I think you can apply many of the same things.
Make your own party favors. Someone suggested ripping up old clothes and safety pinning together, buy some zippers as well. There are also a lot of bead stores that sell things like anchors and skull and cross bones that you could have the kids make into earings or pins.
Remember punk is really about DIY. Maybe get some old punk classics to play on the boombox.. or to make it really easy put them on an ipod that way you dont have to worry about the music all night. Sure it'd be cool if you could get a band to play (most local punk bands will do this for free or for food and drink)
Decorations? Black Black Black.
Maybe a black frosted cake with white lettering... and some strawberry filling that will ooze out.
Think horror, black and floresent colors, stripes, bowling. I know kids are real into video games now a days. Guitar hero competition anyone? Or kareoke with punk songs.
Good luck.

My friend moved away a couple of months ago and she's coming back to us for her party. We are trying to plan a party she will love. My friends don't know all the types of things she'd like because she's a punk rocker as I am. I know the music I need and the place we're having it but I don't know where to find decorations! We want it to be cool cause the people coming haven't seen her in months and it's her 13th birthday. Anyone have any decoration suggestions? So far we only have streamers!

Note: Don't listen to PunkRocker. Listsn to Kirby she has her head straight. PunkRocker has no idea what Emo is - loook up the meaning, PunkRocker. Just so Punk Rocker knows...Emo is a genre of music described as emotionally-driven hardcore Punk. I want all those stereotypes straightened out.
Bueno... Now that's out of the way. As a soon-to-be 16 year old, going to a concert is good, but not always available. Try music, chilling, snacks and so on, don't bother them too much - unless your doughter doesn't mind it.

I just posted this for help for my own daughters bday.. maybe yours might like the idea?
Hello! My daughter is turning 16 this April and I am trying to come up with ideas, too! My daughter is not the frilly pink princess and bows type.. she loves classic rock, hanging out with her friend ( guys and girls, both ) and surfing. We already did the" luau" thing two years ago so I'm looking for somethink different. Alot of her friends are seniors this year so she doesnt want a "tacky" themed party yet I need to have some direction so I can decorate! We thought of "mardi Gras'' but she is not too thrilled with that idea. all of the rock and roll stuff i find is more geared towards the 50's and not the 80's rock that she prefers. The only idea that I can really settle on is a chinese new year theme.. oriental tradng company has some really cool looking black ,red and gold partyware with chinese fortune symbols and dragons on them. I figured several platters of chinese food would be fairly inexpensive . We could hang chinese lanterns around the covered patio and there were some really cool favors like chop sticks, fortune telling sticks, fortune fish, and flashing dragon pins available at the same site. There were some really cool kimono invitations and silk looking boxes and stuff too. Im stuck when it comes to activities though.. the last thing she will want is anything that appears childish.. and I also need to incorporate her classic rock in somehow. Was Yoko Ono chinese? :) I welcome any suggestions! Thanks Cheryl
Editor's Note: I believe Yoko was Japanese.

Don't listen to Kirby! Punk is NOT emo. Emos are depressed people who want to die in the sterotypical world atleast. Punks are totally NOT emo. Punks are people who are themselves and don't follow the crowd and they like punk music. That's punk rocker style. The other punk is skater punk. But yeah. I want to have a punk party for my 13th in 3 months. I have no idea what to do because I live in WA too and there's not much here.

Note: Emo's have been stereotyped for slitting their wrists. Having an emo-based party for an 11-14 year may not be the best idea. Unless you're into that.

Are you guys serious? I'm 19 years old. The new thing isn't punk rock, it's emo/indie/hardcore/scene music. You guys are probably all parents. You don't know what that is, do you? Anyway, you guys are all trying too hard. All kids ever want to do on their birthday is have fun with all of their friends where parents don't nag at them for being loud. Here's what I did for my 18th birthday.
My mom bought tons of junk food, we hooked up a stereo system to the backyard, we had a cookout, we had trashcans full of water balloons, we acted immature and wild in the privacy of our backyard, played music loud, socialized, and had a live band. I'm sure your daughter has friends who are in punk bands. Mine are. Let them play. The set will only be like 20 minutes at the most anyway, what with punk rock music consisting of 1 entire minute of verse, chorus, verus chorus chorus chorus for each song.
But really, just have a lot of food and a lot of places to sit down, let her invite as many people as she wants, and just go upstairs and watch football or something, peeking out the window every once in a while.

go to a concert so your neighbors can't complain about your loud music, then you can be as loud as you want.

Why don't you talk to you daughter - don't get to carried away though. If she is at a stage where she is very concerned about what her peers think the whole parents, fancy cake, and way out decorations may be considered a little immature .
I'd let them loose outside have their favourite foods and their loud punk music (warn the neighbours first if it is going to be really loud or late) and get you daughter to pick out some DVD's to watch (then she can't complaign if they not 'right') when it gets late.
One of the best presents is probably knowing when to leave them alone. Teenagers will want you around for opening presents, taking a couple of happy snaps and serving the food and thats about it!

Hit the forum at www.craftster.org for lots of hip ideas to make their own party favors. Most things are made out of recycled and/or inexpensive supplies and everyone there is way hip.

First- take out the "we". No offense- but a fourteen year old does not want parents around. Also, she is old enough to create her own theme. Ask her what she wants.

RE: Punk Rock Birthday Party Ideas
hey I will be turning 14 soon and al of my friend are punks,or punk rockers~~~!!LOL what u can do is take all of the friend s to the mall to shop at hot topic and get some clothes and then go home put some rock or punk music on and have a gutair cake for desert.... or instead of the hot topic trip you could go before hand to the thrift store or ebay and pick up a ton of punkish clothing and have them either pick out of the clothes and make they're own outfir or they could make cool purses out of them while listeing to music.... (make sure while purchesing the clothes that u get funky jewlery) that would be cool to do and i would be surprised.. if ur daughter isn't like me then well ask her what she'd like to do maybe have her plan the party..
