I buy the rolls of nylon netting, or tulle, that are often times used to make rice bags for weddings. Before I ever take the cellophane wrapper off, I mark 1/2 inch stripes across. I then use a sharp utility knife to cut through all layers all the way around. I take one strip off at a time, taping the others down so they don't get in the way, and crochet w/ that strip like it was yarn. Most use cotton. (I don't crochet so I don't know if you can adapt to nylon or not.)
