Date Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 8 oz. pkg. pitted chopped dates
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

Directions

Mix soda in 1 cup boiling water and pour over dates. Cool. Mix 1 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon butter and egg. Sift salt and baking powder into flour. Add the sugar and egg mixture alternately with date liquid. Mix well and add nuts. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes in greased 8 or 9 inch pan. Serve with whipped cream.
