When I was a youngster my Mom never threw out cake that had gone stale before it's time. She would make a yummy lemon sauce to pour over the stale cake and I must admit, sometimes I would not eat the cake and just wait for it to go stale.

Lemon Sauce/font>

Ingredients:

  • Combine in saucepan :
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 3 Tbsp. lemon juice

Directions:

Cook over med heat, stirring constantly, just until mixture comes to a boil then pour over cake in serving dishes.
