Frozen Tomatoes Have Changed Color

We have two bags of frozen tomatoes from the 2007 season that have turned quite dark in color? Would you use them? They don't have any odd smell but we are a little worried.

Hi Again...we freeze them whole. Just wash them off and core them and into freezer bags they go. I'm sure there is air in the bags. We had never kept tomatoes that long before, usually make sauce during the winter or spring.

Tomatoes should not have done that. You must use good freezer containers and get all the air out. Frozen properly they should be good for two or three years. Don't use anything that is discolored, it might be ok but it will ruin the taste of the things you cook with it.

Thank you for your comments on the tomatoes that had changed to dark red in the freezer. We did just what you said. Out to the garbage with them.

If in doubt, throw it out.

They just turned dark in the freezer without thawing? I wouldn't eat them although I really do hate to waste but better safe than sorry.
