Stay in a suite and you will be able to make meals and save money on restaurants.

By Denise Mower

Editor's Note: I usually get the cheapest room I can so I have more money for restaurants. :-)

If you are driving to your destination, you can take a few things from home to be able to make meals in your room....like bring a crock pot, an electric skillet. We usually pick a place that has a frig and microwave and mini bar set up....you can do a lot with that....oh and yeah, a coffeemaker....but heck before places started including a coffemaker, I'd bring something from home to make that first cup of the morning! By the way, if doing Disney World and you want to stay within the parks, choose one of their value hotels....way less money and just as nice...perfectly adequate. We stayed at the All Star Movies last Mar for a week and it was great and very kid friendly too. We saved a bundle over the fancier Disney hotels and the kids don't know the difference!

You only need a room with a small fridge and microwave. When we go away with the grandkids I always get a CHEAP room with the above and manage to make all the meals. Sometimes we will get some fried chicken at the local supermarket with a bag of salad and a bottle of salad dressing and have it for a special supper. In 2000, we took them to Florida for 10 very busy days. For 4 of us, including airfare, car rental, Disney, Epcott, Universal (both parts), Seaworld and a water park in Orlando, room, meals, EVERYTHING--we did it for under $1500. We went everyday-all day to some attraction, and all arrangements, reservations were made on the internet. We had a great time, but needed a vacation when it was over.
