It's the busiest school salon in the state. I went to school there and I assure you, the cosmetologists go through a lot of training before they're let loose in the salon... and yes, there are professionals supervising and helping out when needed. And, since you're looking for color, I must add that they have an experienced colorist mix your color to your specifications. Good Luck! If you go to a cosmetology school, ask for a student that has 3 months left before graduation. A more experienced student will give you better results. Also, a friend of mine had a birthday party for a 6-year old girl and took them all for manicures at the local beauty school. It cost her $4.00 a person, & they all had a blast! Heavenly things and for the bargain price of $30. I've been toying with the idea of having my hair done and assume it would be as well supervised as the Aesthetics department. It seems to me THAT would be what I would do - go for your nails & while you are there you can watch & listen to see firsthand the reactions others have with the work done there ! I get my hair colored and cut also. I have never ever had a bad cut or color. The four teachers are always watching the girls constantly. I know each one by name, that is what a terrific job they do. I am proud to go here and save lots of money. I talk to the training girls and tell them what I want and get great results. When I was in hair school, in New Hampshire we were constantly supervised. I can only remember one situation that was a cause for alarm, when a student to a woman's hairline up an extra 2-3 inches in the back. Other than that when the client came in there was a consultation, the instructor would come over review the information during the consultation with the student and client. The student {regarding color} then would explain what color she would use, level, shade, amounts etc. The instructor would say good idea or not, if it was not a good idea the instructor would explain a better way. It was a great experience to begin in cosmetology. It will save you money, if you would like to feel a bit more confident, go in and have a wash and style done, and watch what is going on around you and how things are done. That will give you a better feel for the place. If not don't go back. Contact I hjave gone to the Vidal Sassoon Academy for years (for cuts, not color). If you are going to go to a beauty school, find the highest-end one you can. It would be worth it to do some research & find out how well the students are supervised, etc. The students at Vidal Sasson are often the equivalent of "grad" students & already work at salons. I tried to color my hair blonde, now it is orange, a $10 home color job, will now cost me $100-200 to correct. I have heard horror stories of women going to the schools. I just talked with a woman last night, she went to a school, for color, and her hair was orange, green, black and purple. You are, after all, allowing students to learn on your hair. Yes, indeed, students are supervised but they are still students. Where I went, people could ask for a particular student, so you don't necessarily have a different student every time. Another thing that customers often did was to ask for a "senior" or a student that is in the last stages of learning. That may or may not work.but you can certainly give it a try.
