My kids took a ballpoint pen and wrote on the latex apartment wall. Magic Eraser & Goo Gone didn't get it of. I'd like to know if anyone has a suggestion or if I should just prime and paint the spots?

Thanks,
Aileen

A two year old with a pen and a wall was not a good situation. I am grateful for this website. We tried the nail polish remover, Oops, hair spray and rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol worked the best. Keep putting the rubbing alcohol on the rag and and using different areas of the rag; do not be afraid to rub hard and I used my thumb nail to get in the grooves the pen point created. Although we hope our little artist does not get another pen any time soon, at least we know how to resolve the situation. It all came off the wall.

If you're going to paint the wall anyway, I've heard that if you cover the ink w/clear nail polish the primer and paint will adhere to the clear polish and "cover" the ink. But if you just paint the wall it could bleed through. Good luck - those days, for me are over!

I tried nail polish remover with a Qtip and it worked well. It did take some of the paint, but I was careful not to wipe after the pen came off.

I'm glad I found this website because my 3 yr old wrote on every wall in my mothers living room ( she just bought the house). I'm so scared so right about now because she going to be upset, hurt and angry. I was just writing a letter explaining it to her then I ran across this site because magic eraser didn't work for me. I bought some stuff to get marks off the wall, but it was too strong it took the paint off and the smell was strong. Then I went and bought the magic eraser it didn't work but I will try the other methods tomorrow and post back to update.

I have consistently tried hairspray on walls, and nothing happened. Trust me, use RUBBING ALCOHOL!!! It works wonders... you have to put a little elbow grease into it, but it get pen and crayon off every time.

I just tried liquid hairspray and it was amazing..Have tried EVERYTHING else with no luck.

Just applied to wall left a few seconds and then wiped off, some marks needed doing twice.

My 2 and 4 year old decided to draw on our new painted walls. I typed into google "how to get pen off the wall" and I've seen a lot of people recommending hairspray so I tried it. You actually see the pen running off the wall as soon as you spray it on. I would recommend it to anyone

Hairspray melts the pen mark away like magic, but it also melts the paint too.

I used Pantene pro-v hairspray and it worked took! It took a little scrubbing but it worked. After that I just took a wet cloth to clean the hairspray off the wall.

Nail Polish remover brings some paint of the wall! But hairspray not as dark as it was before! What else will make it come totally off?

I used the hairspray idea and it worked like a charm! The second I sprayed the hairspray on the pen ink, the ink started running and all I had to do was wipe it and it was gone! Thanks you guys!

I am a big fan of the magic eraser. I got ballpoint pen on my white leather gucci watch strap and after 5 visits to leather shop/shoe repair/watch repair shop, MR Clean Magic Eraser took the pen off my watch! Amazing. I imagine it would work for any wall as well.

Hairspray does not work at all. It just makes the wall sticky.

I am a big fan of the Magic Eraser but the one thing it doesn't take off is pen marks on walls. I tried!

Editor's Note: I haven't tried it on ballpoint pen marks but it worked well on dry erase marker that nothing else would take off.

Try WD-40. I think the "Queen of Clean" used that on the walls she needed to clean. Her book is full of good ideas. Used about 7 do far.

Hairspray should work but wash what you have used first off then any type can hairspray but let the walls dry before you start. Spray on the wall and wipe easy with clean cloth do this several times and it should come off. We have used this for years.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser has gotten everything off our walls, including red crayon that I had previously not been able to get off.
