Applesauce Bars

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup raisins
  • confectioners' sugar

Directions:

Mix flour with soda and spices. Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy; add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in flour mixture. Add applesauce, nuts, and raisins; stir until blended. Pour into greased 10x15 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes. Cool. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.

Recipe: Applesauce Bars

Ingredients and Directions

Cream:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shortening

Add:

  • 1-1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce with 2 tsp. soda added

Add:

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Add:

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes.

Topping:

Brown 1/2 cup butter (in skillet, heat and stir till brown)

Add:

  • 2 Tbsp. cold water
  • 1 tsp. maple flavoring
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 lb. powdered sugar

Mix and spread on warm bars.

Thank you for posting the recipe - it looks as though it would be very tasty and I plan to try it. What size pan is required? Is total baking time only 15 minutes? That doesn't seem to be long enough. Thank you, Trish from Nova Scotia, Canada (10/27/2008)
