What do your cabinets look like? Can you post a pic? There are some really good books out you can get from your library that can give you some basic lessons on how to woodgrain. Check out "The Art of Faux" by Pierre Finkelstein or do a search for "faux woodgraining" in your library search engine. It is definitely an art but you may be able to accomplish a basic grain with some practice. Or you can always ask a decorative artist/ faux finisher if they can do woodgrain and get an estimate. Might cost you something but not nearly the thousands you'd pay for new cabinets.
One way would be to cover them with contact paper with a wood grain. Another would be with a faux finish - you might be able to find a kit nowadays for that....
