How can you remove black spots from silver plated utensils? Silver polish didn't work. The spots seem to be more than ordinary tarnish.

look closely to see if the black stops are pitting (little holes in the silver plate). If that is the case there is likely no chance of "polishing" them away.

You may be able to fill them, but I've no real clue how...
