I just used nail polish remover, after dropping the paint pot on the carpet, as I was falling off the ladder. LOL! :0)
It worked a treat, no one will ever know that there was paint there. Thank you for the great tip!

After painting the back porch, The dog walked in the paint and left little steps on the carpet in the living room. I was frantic, didnt know what to do to get it up without smearing it more, I read about the nail polish remover, it worked perfect. :) Thank you so so much for the information. May i add that it was (stain) paint. So try the nail polish remover.

We painted our room dark brown on the ceiling and tan on the walls and both colors seeped through the drop cloth onto the carpet but we didn't find it until the next day. We read your suggestions and tried the nail polish remover as we had some in the house and it worked like a dream! Thank you all for your hints and suggestions. We will forever swear by nail polish remover. Our carpet was unharmed and it came out fast. We poured a little on the spot and scrubbed with a rag. The small stains and stains that are on top virtually disappear. The deeper stains take some scrubbing but they come out in the end. Whew!

If the paint is still wet, pour club soda over it and then cover that with a bunch of salt! Worked like a charm.

Thanks all! I just split black fireplace paint on a gray/blue carpet and the nail polish remover did the trick. Its still wet and I came directly here to find a household hint to get it up. Note: Dawn dish soap must have something in it too, it helped get a lot of the paint up too. Thanks again.

I was an idiot and was out on my porch spray painting a candelabra. I got black spray paint on the carpet. What will take it out? It happened yesterday. The carpet is industrial carpet and a medium dark blue.

Help, I have plum carpet. We were painting our living room rose. Aura, my dog, got tangled in the plastic and the whole gallon and everything else went every where. I mean every where. I have tried goo goo gone, hand cleaner, nail polish remover. 1/2 gallon went in one spot. I need some advise. Thank you

Editor's Note Paint is usually water soluble but first, get up as much as you can. It may be a lost cause with that much paint but soap and water once you have as much of the paint up as possible is your best bet. A broom and dust pan, sweeping as much as you can into the dust pan and getting it out of there is best to start. Then use clean sponges to soak up as much as possible, wash them out good, squeeze them out and keep soaking up as much as possible. that's a lot of paint so you may need to replace the part of the rug where the half gallon landed but you may be able to spot clean other places.

Woohoo! Spray paint made for craft painting clothes, dried on carpet one week before I found it in daughter's room. Acetone nail polish remover worked great. immediately followed by much dousing with cleaner and water then scrubbed with steam cleaner. It was beige carpet and dark blue paint. I am so happy it is gone.

Hydrogen Peroxide can take out paint -- it's what I'm using right now. I don't have the other products on hand, but am going to give them a try to see if they work better, once the peroxide runs out. I accidentally got paint on my carpet when I was painting the stairs, and it's coming out okay. I'm having to scrub it with a white cloth, and it's stubborn, but it is coming out.

You may want to test for colorfastness, though -- I'm using it on light-colored (beige) carpet, and it doesn't seem to be a problem, but it's possible that on dark carpet, it might remove some of the color.

THANK YOU all, so much! The nail polish remover did a fabulous job removing DRIED cream colored paint off of light gray carpet and maintained the carpet's colorfastness.

We have our home on the market and our upstairs hallway and stairs from where we painted we hit the carpets pretty bad, they are paint free now and look brand new. BTW works on the Carolina red mud too. (-D Thanks Again! Gary

How much and what type of polish remover are you all using? I have purple paint of beige carpet that has hardened. I tried the polish remover and it didn't work. Will goo gone work on this maybe?

I tried the nail polish remover and it worked. I have beige carpet and we had some white spotting on our stairs. It came out. I put the nail polish remover on the paper towel and blotted the spot over and over and it came out! I am still in shock that it worked. And our carpet didn't ruin from the polish remover.

I had some black paint bleed through my canvas throw onto my beige carpet. It wasn't a puddle but it was very obviously there. I used the nail polish trick and it worked really well. It's worth a try.
y biggest fear was bleaching my carpet but it didn't take any of the color out, lucky me.

We have light colored carpet & almost a whole can of bright pink paint one of the small cans spilled on it. I didn't know what to do so I covered it with a towel to try to soak it up & hid it from my husband. He just found it, how do I get it out? Thank you.

The best thing ever is called OOPS. Menards and Home Depot stores carry it. Whenever I paint, I always keep some on hand. (06/05/2007)

Goo Gone, but check for colorfasting first in an inconspicuous place. (06/05/2007)

RE: Removing Paint From Carpet

I work maintenance in the property management industry and have spilled latex paint several times on carpet. I swear by Simple Green. You spray it unconcentrated into the carpet and then scrub it with a brush. If its a small enough area you can just rub it out with the tip of your toe. You may need to clean your carpet afterwards but it works very well. (10/20/2007)

RE: Removing Paint From Carpet

I spilled a bit of paint about the size of a credit card in my baby's room. I just tried scrubbing, soaking, spraying with every cleaning solution I owned. I even went and got Goo Be Gone. I tried cutting it out with a razor blade! Nothing worked, at all. I poured nail polish remover and it took it right out! I actually cried, but I'm just emotional. (10/21/2007)

My cat knocked over a quart of white bathroom paint onto my brown carpet, I was not home at the time it happened, so it had dried some by the time I discovered this. Any suggestions as to how I might be able to remove this paint without futher damage to the carpet?

Thanks in advance!

RE: Removing Paint From Carpet

Try spraying WD-40 on it. Wipe with clean cloth until all paint is gone. Then, clean the area with carpet cleaner. (09/21/2004)

Greased Lightening will remove paint from most anything. I have used this in the past and it works well. (01/20/2005)

RE: Removing Paint From Carpet

If your carpet is nylon, go to your local home depot and get this stuff called Goof Off professional strength in the spray or squeeze can, apply it with a toothbrush and gently scrub, paint will dissapear as if it was never there. also works great on clothes. (11/13/2005)
