My partner and I have just bought 2 finches, a male and a female. I was wondering when or if they will breed?

They will probably start mating soon. Sometimes a couple doesnt get along, and you may have to get a new partner.
There are several things you need to do to assure successful breeding of your finches. You can find some excellent information at www.thesprucepets.com/
Fix the cage up for them and put in the box so they can build their nest. Leave them alone and if they are compitable they should breed when they are old enough or ready. Many people worry about this and nature is a funny thing. When the birds are ready to lay eggs and breed they will surprise you. There is really nothing for you to do except make sure the male and female get along together.
