First of all; you should look for free blankets as cold weather is already here in many parts of the country. Look for yarn second so you will have a backup blanket.

• Place wanted ads on Craigslist, Freecycle, Nextdoor.org, as well as any other local sites.
• These sites are VERY easy to use; just find them on the internet and click on your zip/area and read the simple instructions.
• Look at the free sections on these sites before you ask for anything as there may already be free items you can use.
• Ask for free blankets and/or yarn and state your reason for asking. Be sure you have a way to pick up anything offered before you agree to accept it.
• If you have a church in your area you should ask at their office as they generally have ways to get supplies like this. You do not have to be a member but should live in the area.
• Salvation Army will always give blankets and winter clothing but you have to apply and fill out a form. They are usually very nice and accommodating with things like this. Accept any clothing offered also.

• Church thrift stores will also help with blankets as well as Hospice Thrift stores. You do have to ask.
• Some of these places may also have free yarn but blankets first.
• Be sure to check out Nextdoor.org as this will be people within your immediate neighborhood so you would not have to travel very far.

• There are good people all over so ask for help and you will find it.

You don't mention where you are...so I hope there is one near you...have you tried Project Linus for blankets? www.projectlinus.org/.../

I have heard good things about them!

I say this because I fully agree with cybergrannie...blankets for now first, then yarn later.

If you have old sweaters around that you can't use, these are a faster way to make use of something you may already have...old sweaters...and turn them into warm and stylish blankets:

I would check with your local thrift shops, most of them get wool donated to them, mostly not a whole ball of wool and no matching colors, not really worth putting out for sale, if you don't mind a blanket of many colors I believe if asked they would be glad to give you the odd lots rather than throwing them away. I am assuming you know how to knit or crochet. Good luck !!
