Gedempte means "well-cooked." It is a flavorful, braised chicken that is economical and great for the winter. The chicken, potatoes and onions were all on sale. Use one potato and one piece of chicken for each serving

Total Time: 90 minutes
Yield: 4-6 servings
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 cut up chicken, or pieces of your choice
1/2 cup boiling water
4-6 potatoes, peeled and cut up (optional)
Mix the spices, and put on a plate or in a plastic bag.
Coat the chicken pieces with the spices.
Brown the chicken in a skillet, removing the pieces as they brown
Add the onions and brown them.
Return the chicken to the pan and arrange the onions on the top.
Add the water, cover and simmer 30 minutes.
If you are adding the potatoes, remove the chicken, add the potatoes, and boil them 20 minutes, or until done.
Return the chicken and heat through.
You can prepare the chicken the day before and reheat, if you wish.
