Getting Rid of Head Lice?

Getting Rid of Head Lice - package of lice shampooEarlier this afternoon before I knew that I have lice I had applied olive oil to my entire head. Then I discovered lice. Now online I see that if I want to use the CVS compared product to get rid of them, I was not to wash and condition my hair in order to get the olive oil out of my hair so that it would be manageable in order to apply this medication. I'm very concerned.

Lice seem to hang on forever and re-treatment usually has to be done.

  • Some people swear by using olive oil to eradicate the lice so you may be of to a good start.
  • If you have already purchased a product that says use on dry hair only then you may have to shampoo your hair and dry it before using that brand.
  • The main thing is do not use anything but straight shampoo or even Dawn dish soap instead of shampoo.
  • Do not use any type of conditioner, just rinse out shampoo.
  • Blow dry your hair (even this will kill many nits but not live lice).
  • Use your product as recommended but be ready to retreat in a few days.
  • Be sure to wash (hottest water) all towels, bed linens, etc. and dry on hottest setting.

  • There is a lot of information on this subject but here are a couple of very informative sites. Check out the different products before your second treatment.

Lice removal

Step 1
Wash your hair with a shampoo that has a high detergent level, or a liquid dish soap to get all the oil out.

Step 2
Apply the product

Step 3
Use the comb to get the nits out

Step 4
Check for nits daily for the next three weeks

Step 5
Wash clothing and bedding in hot water and dry in a hot dryer

Step 6
Buy lice spray for upholstery in the home and car

Step 7
Put pillows and stuffed toys that cant be washed in sealed plastic bags for 3 weeks.

Concerned about lice shampoo.

Step 1
The olive oil will trap them in your hair and kill them to.

Step 2
Go ahead and wash and condition your hair to get oil out.

Step 3
Then wait for it to dry then apply lice treatment.

Step 4
It will not hurt anything.

Just use mayonnaise. I am not at home so I can't Sen you links but Google "mayonnaise for head lice" and you will get tons of info.
