Identifying a Houseplant?

bromeliad looking plantWe have been given a houseplant by a family member. Can you please tell us what plant it is so we can look after it properly. It's looking withered :(

Hello this is a banana plant you could also look it up it up on Google. I use to study plants so most of them I know.

It looks like a Tillandsia to me. There are many varieties of this plant. A common name is an "airplant." Tillandsia require no soil but like a good water soaking once a week (we put ours in buckets!). This type of plant absorbs nutrients and water through it's leaves. Sometimes they are mounted on bark, set in planters or glued on other objects. A good misting with water (about 1-3x's a week) and good air circulation will nurture a mounted plant.
