Storing potatoes in a paper bag.Take potatoes out of their plastic bag. Double-bag then in paper, and close with a clip. Store in a cool, dry place for maximum storage time.

These days especially, we have to preserve our food. You can also take advantage of sales by doing this.

Thanks, Judy.
Cooking for 1 or 2 is difficult and I really dislike wasting food so I usually only buy a few individual potatoes.
I'll try this next time.

Thanks, Judy,

I am having trouble keeping potatoes. I always take them out of the plastic bag and keep them in a cool, dark place in a colander but hadn't thought about putting them in paper bags. I'll give that a try.

I do know for sure that potatoes treated to prevent sprouting will 'go bad' much faster than those not treated. I have read that the chemicals used to prevent sprouting have been associated with breast cancer. Whether true or not, I do wish the growers were legally obligated to label potatoes as treated or not. Disrupting the natural processes of the potato with chemicals, which we will ultimately consume, cannot be a good thing.
