Wood and Yarn Centipede - cute centipedeUse a wooden Popsicle/ice lolly stick and scraps of yarn to make this cute centipede. It's a fun rainy day project for children.

And you don't have to use yarn - string, narrow ribbon, embroidery thread, or a mix will do fine and if you don't have wiggle eyes, use beads or just draw them on.

Supplies:

  • wooden stick
  • scraps of yarn or similar
  • wiggle eyes
  • glue
Wood and Yarn Centipede - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Cut your yarn into equal lengths of about 5 inches (12cm).
  2. Wood and Yarn Centipede - cut yarn into 5" lengths
     
  3. Take one piece, fold it in half and place the stick on top of it.
  4. Wood and Yarn Centipede - yarn folded in half and placed under the stick with the ends to the right and loop to the left
     
  5. Fold the ends over the sick and pass them through the loop on the other side.
  6. Wood and Yarn Centipede - bring ends over the stick and put though the loop
     
  7. Pull it tight.
  8. Wood and Yarn Centipede - yarn ends pulled through the loop

  9. Repeat the other way round.
  10. Wood and Yarn Centipede - add the second piece of yarn tying off to the opposite side
     
  11. Keep adding yarn until your centipede has plenty of legs.
  12. Wood and Yarn Centipede - continue adding yarn alternating sides
     
  13. Add a drop of glue at the head end.
  14. Wood and Yarn Centipede - drop of glue on one end for the eyes
     
  15. Add two wiggle eyes.
  16. Wood and Yarn Centipede - eyes glued in place
     
  17. Be patient. Leave your centipede to one side to let the glue dry. If you find the legs keep coming undone, add some little drops of glue to the knots.
  18. Wood and Yarn Centipede - done
