Picking Berries

May 21, 2004

Picking BlueberriesIf you have ever went out to pick dewberries, you know how hard they are to get without getting stuck with all the little prickly vines they grow on. Well finally, I have came up with the best idea how to get around this problem, a long pair of bbq tongs.

And if you are trying to get them through a fence, this works great as they won't fall out of the tongs either. Just wanted to share.

use a pair of long rubber gloves, the ones that you use when washing pots at home. They are thin enough so you can gently grab the berries, but strong enough and long enough to protect your wrists from the thorns! Don't wrestle with the red ones, just go for the darker ones as they can be romoved very easy! Enjoy!

put a tarp below the bush, find a way to shake the bush as best possible without damaging anything. slide tarp out and seperate leaves from berries.. easiest way we have found to harvest
