You can keep an outdoor faucet or pump from turning the surrounding area to mud, if you dig out a hole beneath the water spout and replace the soil with rocks or gravel.

I got tired of the constant mud puddle under our faucet. Between watering our yard and maintaining our ducks' pen, we have the water on a lot. So my husband created this awesome little gravel pad under the faucet. It is perfect for preventing the mud puddles. It is also a great place to rinse off boots.

My husband built a frame using 4x4 pieces of wood. Then we lined the area with weed cloth, put the frame in place, and filled it with gravel. We finished by tamping it and adding a little more gravel.
