Recovery Time for a Puppy with Parvo?

The first day my 3 month old puppy had diarrhea, his poops had no form and were smelly. I rushed him to the vet. The vet checked his temperature and said that there was no fever. She only gave me an antibacterial and meds for the diarrhea and pet delyte (oral hydration).

When we got home, my puppy was like back to normal. He played, drank, and ate. He was fine until we slept that night. The next morning, when I woke up, he wouldn't eat or drink. He vomited white foam. At first, it was smelly. Soon the smells were gone. His diarrhea was gone too. He was still vomiting white foam til midnight. He even pooped blood.

I thought my puppy wouldn't make it til morning when I woke up. I tried to search for an open vet at midnight, but none were open. So I stayed up and cleaned his mouth whenever he threw up. He was very weak. Around 5am today, he stopped vomiting and there is no diarrhea anymore, but he still won't eat and drink on his own. He is still weak right now. Do you think he has a chance to survive and recover?

Keep him hydrated, is most important. Watch him close and try to offer small amounts of food until he is back on his feet. If his condition gets worse, call a Vet for a follow up!

At first, it did not sound like the vet had diagnosed your dog with parvo. It does sound like indeed the dog has parvo. The bloody diarrhea is what concerns me the most. In so many cases a dog can die from this. I know you had the dog at the vet and he was given a shot, I really think he needs to go back as soon as you possible can take him back.

The white foam he is thowing up is not a good sign either. Please keep doing what you are doing and get him back to the vet immediately. In most cases and ones like yours it normally will take around 8 to 10 days for the dog to heal but it can take up to 4 weeks for a full recovery.

Is there a chance he ate something that didn't agree with him? I don't think he was poisoned per se but maybe he encountered a plant or some rotting food.

Either that or parvo.
