There are screws that have to be removed. If you do not have the owners manual you can download one.

The best way to start is by watching a video on YouTube where this guy takes you through the process of disassembling the sewing machine. You can find it here - www.youtube.com/
Unless Im missing something this video only shows the last half of the disassembly process. Useless without the beginning stages.
