Sink Strainer Catch-All

I'm trying to get away from so much processed food. I still indulge occasionally. Single servings of Stouffer's Lasagna is a favorite, and for me, comes with a little kitchen aid bonus.

Our sink strainers let the tiny stuff through while catching and holding the larger bits. These larger bit must be discarded.

I use to reach into a bottom cabinet for a small trash pail, one I had double lined with grocery bags which had been checked for any small holes, placed it in the sink and emptied the strainer into it. The interior finish of my fairly new (fairly cheap) cabinets is such that I try to avoid spills or any contact with standing water).

I came up with a solution that works quite well and of course, free. I use two of the small black 'tubs' the single servings of lasagna come in (they're about the size of a bar of bath soap, a little deeper).

I punch a few small holes in the bottom of one and nest it inside the other. That's it! It's small enough to sit next to my faucet beside the soap dispenser bottle.

I dump the wet stuff caught by the strainer right into it with no worry of trailing water to the trash pail or placing the trash pail into the sink.

By the time I've finished up in the kitchen, any water in the waste has drained into the bottom tub. I still reach for my little trash pail but I don't set it into the sink. And when I empty the tub into it, I don't worry about pouring any water in along with it.

And of course, the little tubs are easy to keep clean. When it's not being used for waste, I keep my pot scrubber in it.

When I walk away from a cleaned kitchen, I don't like to see a lot of things that should have a place out of sight. These tubs are so small and neat, I don't mind seeing them sitting beside the soap dispenser.

No, I never heard of an electric garbage disposal. My pet pig I proclaimed Priscilla partakes of the paltry portions of table scraps I set apart for her.......and I don't even have to plug her in.

And here are pictures of the lasagna tubs with drain holes in the 'upper' tub. Makes a nice caddy for my free pot scrubber when not catching wet odds and ends.
