Storing Needle Craft Thread

I cut cracker or cereal boxes into index card like rectangles that fit into a shoe/boot box. I snip out of the 2 long sides, about 3/4" deep, so it is shaped like a spool of thread to create a winding space. I label the brand and color # on the back with a list of the local stores that sell them.

From the extra cardboard, I cut about 1/2" wide x 3" strips and save the little sleeve that has the color # and brand and a small sample of about 1/2" long. I then tape them onto the slip of cardboard that can be tucked under the wrapped thread when in storage.

I punch a hole in the little slip cards at 1 end, and use a binder ring or key ring to bundle the assortment I need to match and buy again. I attach these to my car key ring or my purse strap. I store, filing by color, and have a running list of colors used on my projects and keep it in the bottom of my thread card box. A darn near, free method to support my madness, needle crafts/sewing.
