I use Dawn full strength on my two girls. The fleas start dying as you are shampooing your dog. Remember to always start with the neck so the fleas don't escape to the ears and nose. If you can keep the lather on your dog for 5 minutes the better. Keep the soap away from the face. I have bathe my dogs once a week to be sure there are no survivors. The soap is very gentle and works great.

Just saw this but I still wanted to comment. YESSSS, Dawn works great for fleas, and if your pet ever gets skunked use Dawn its the only thing that works and gets it all out of your pets fur! Skunk spray is oily so Dawn is perfect! I applied it thick, worked up a pastey lather leaving it on for about 10 min.

Massaging my dog with the thick lather feels good so he didnt get antsy. Also you can take a cotton ball saturated with alcohol and when you see a flea cover it with the cotton ball holding it on the flea for about 20 seconds, the alcohol smothers the flea and it dies, flush the cotton balls!
