Value of a Thomas Kinkade Print?

I have a Thomas Kinkade print named "Still Water Cottage" that 30" x 24" with a certificate of authenticity framed. I would like to sell it. What kind of price range should I be looking for?

I saw the smaller versions on eBay for about $80, so I think yours is worth about $50 more.

Since you are asking to sell, I can tell you when researching online, especially eBay, make sure you ONLY use SOLD auctions as your guide and that the item is an EXACT match to yours (title, frame, status of COA, condition).

There are many similar pieces with a wide range of values that is why it is critical to locate an EXACT match (with numbered pieces exact means in that numbered series--knowing that a lower number may fetch slightly more than a higher).

Without knowing the frame style, condition, etc. of yours it is hard for me to give you an exact value because I wouldn't be able to match an eBay sold item apples to apples.

I can illustrate the importance of apples to apples being critical as ...this framed pieces which is smaller than yours sold for $170.50 + shipping (first link) and an unframed poster (second link) sold for .99 cents plus shipping

If there are several of the EXACT items sold with slightly different prices, then you may want to start your auction at the average price, in a 30 day fixed auction, where you offer the buyer the option to bid a best offer.

Hope this helps you on the path to finding the best value to sell yours!

There are so many variables in Thomas Kinkade paintings that it is almost impossible to place any kind of value without being able to find several exact listings that have sold over the past several months. Most of the paintings being listed are canvas which command a higher price than a print but also, are very difficult to sell - there are just too many available and even new paintings are still be sold by Kinkade Studios.

Here is a link showing just how many sizes/types are available of each picture. Scroll down to see what I mean.

  • It appears you show a "guesstimate" on the measurements (not far off) but it appears the true measurements of the print are 25.5" x 34" unless your print is small and you are giving measurements of the print/frame. I only mention this as in art work the measurements must be exact.
  • Here is a small framed print but it is just an example of what is being listed for sale.

  • To make it even more difficult to place a value there are numerous previous gallery owners who are selling off their Kinkade paintings and of course they have the best art and all sizes/materials.
  • And - their prices are well in line with what people are willing to pay. The only way someone will buy from an individual - over a studio - (something like this) is if they can see the painting and it is true bargain. Of course, you still have to find someone who really wants what you have.

  • I would suggest you ask for an appraisal but you will have to be able to tell them a lot more about your print (is it a print on canvas?) than given here. Here is a link to some sites that offer free appraisals but check them out for yourself.
