I got this the other day for a friend and I want to be able to give her care tips. The leaves are striped with parallel lines of dark green and are remarkably stiff or rigid. They are roughly 1 in to 2 in long.

I believe your plant may be a Peperomia puteolata but there is another plant that looks just like this so I could be wrong. Check out the photos.
This could be a dieffenbachia. It prefers medium sunlight and moderately dry soil.
