Working With an Aggressive Dog?

I have a Basenji and she is mixed with something else. She does bark and she is light brown, but she is now getting some white on her head and feet.

We would like to know how stop the fighting between our dogs. We have a Jack Russel and our Basenji always wants to fight with her and she is always growling at everything. We are also afraid she is going to bite us. She has tried so we are kind of her.

No two animals should have to live in fear of each other. And you are placing both these Dogs in a very nasty situation. The "kindess" thing you can do for them is place the aggressive animal in a new home where they are the "only" Dog.

If this unacceptable attitude still exists the new owner may have to consider the risks. Hope this helps you.

Farstar is right, you should rehome one of these dogs, and make sure the new home is prepared to cope with what may be a naturally aggressive dog. These two will never become friends and the most you could ever hope for is something like an armed truce that could erupt in half a heartbeat.

I raised and trained AKC Boxers for over 30 years whilst living in the US and there were times I had to let a beloved Boxer go to a new home because it would not get along with the others. It's a heartbreaking and difficult event but some dogs are simply 'One Dog-One animal Companion' dogs who will never learn to be happy in a multi-animal home.

Cats are the same, btw. I've had many cat companions who thrived in our multi-species home but there have been a few that simply could not adjust, and those felines were rehomed to homes where they were the 'only'.

Now that I live in Scotland I would have to have a dog but the foster cat we ended up adopting is one of those 'only' types-the reason we ended up adopting him is that he would not make friends with the other cats (three) in what should have been his new home. We already knew he wouldn't get along with dogs from the situation he was rescued from. So we have a cat and satisfy our dog yearnings visiting friends with dogs.
